Invisalign in Sheffield

Invisalign ® clear aligners are a discreet, comfortable alternative to traditional metal braces used by millions of people worldwide. Custom made to fit your teeth, Invisalign aligners are removable for eating, drinking and brushing your teeth, and can be easily cleaned. Each aligner is worn daily for 1-2 weeks and then replaced with a new one.

What can Invisalign help with?

Invisalign can treat a variety of common tooth alignment issues to give you a straighter, more balanced smile. Some of the issues Invisalign can treat include the following:

Crowding

Gaps between teeth

Gaps between teeth

Crowding happens when there is not enough space for your teeth to fit properly. This can cause pain and make it hard for you to clean them, putting them at risk of decay.

Gaps between teeth can lead to pockets between your teeth and gums where food can get stuck. If left untreated, this can lead to inflammation and soreness, and eventually decay. Since teeth work in pairs and stimulate each other when they chew, a gap can eventually lead to problems with the tooth above it.

Open bite

Gaps between teeth

Open bite

An open bite occurs when your upper and lower teeth don’t touch when you close your mouth. This can make chewing and biting harder foods like apples difficult.

Underbite

Overbite (or ‘deep bite’)

Open bite

An underbite is when your lower front teeth are in front of your upper teeth when you close your mouth. This can cause problems with speaking clearly and chewing, and cause your teeth to wear down quickly.

Overbite (or ‘deep bite’)

Overbite (or ‘deep bite’)

Overbite (or ‘deep bite’)

An overbite is when your top front teeth overlap your bottom ones. Most people have some overbite, but if yours is too big, it can cause pain in your jaw and your teeth might wear down more quickly.

Crossbite

Overbite (or ‘deep bite’)

Overbite (or ‘deep bite’)

A crossbite happens when some of your top front teeth are positioned inside your lower front teeth when you close your mouth, rather than outside. Untreated, this can lead to your teeth chipping and wearing down, receding and damaged gums.

Why choose Invisalign in Sheffield?

Almost invisible

Comfortable and non-invasive

Comfortable and non-invasive

Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign aligners are almost invisible as they are made from transparent plastic. If you are self-conscious about having orthodontic treatment, this makes them a great choice.

Comfortable and non-invasive

Invisalign aligners are made from plastic rather than metal or ceramic. They have no wires or brackets that could come loose or become stuck, making them comfortable and easy to clean.

Minimal disruption

Fewer appointments needed

As Invisalign aligners are removable, there are no restrictions on what you can and can’t eat, as long as you take them out for eating and drinking. Just remember to put them back afterwards! We recommend that you wear Invisalign aligners for between 20 and 22 hours each day.

Fewer appointments needed

As you replace the aligners yourself, Invisalign usually doesn’t need as many appointments as braces do, although the treatment usually takes the same amount of time (12-18 months).

If you decide to go ahead with Invisalign, we’ll take a 3D scan of your teeth. You’ll be able to see how your smile will look before and after your Invisalign journey. We will use your scans to create a detailed treatment plan, and they will be sent to the Invisalign lab to create your bespoke aligners.

Once your aligners are ready, you can book a follow up appointment to collect them. Our dental team will explain how to take care of them. We’ll also advise you how often to book a review, usually every 6-8 weeks.

Retainer

After you’ve finished wearing your aligners, you’ll need to wear a retainer. We offer a choice of custom-made retainers for you to wear after your treatment. These are custom made to fit your smile; we recommend wearing one while you sleep.

Before and After smile transformations

Frequently Asked Questions about Invisalign

Your treatment will start with a consultation with our Invisalign-accredited dentist, Dr Vasile, who will take a 3D scan of your teeth. We will use this to map out a treatment plan which will guide your teeth into their new positions and transform your smile.

During treatment, you should wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours per day, changing to a new set every 1-2 weeks. Over time, your teeth will be gently moved towards their final positions. Although aligners are removable, in some cases you may need attachments, or ‘engagers’, bonded to certain teeth to help guide them into place.

On average, Invisalign takes as long as fixed braces to work - about 12 to 18 months. However, this can vary, as everyone’s smile is different. Some patients with only minor misalignment issues take around 6 months, while complex treatments can take 24 months or longer.

There should not be any pain if you get Invisalign as this is a non-invasive treatment and aligners are made from flexible plastic and designed to feel smooth and comfortable. However, some patients report that aligners can feel tight when they first start wearing them, and there might be some soreness around your gums in the beginning. If this continues, please contact us so we can help.

No treatment is 100% guaranteed to work, but Invisalign produces excellent results for many patients, especially people who have mild to moderate tooth misalignment issues, or who need teeth straightening at the front of the mouth. It may be less effective with the back teeth, or in more complex situations. In the event that Invisalign is not for you, we offer a variety of orthodontic options which can be found here.

If you choose Invisalign, it is important that you replace your aligners after cleaning your teeth or eating; ideally, clear aligners should be worn for between 20 and 22 hours a day. If you leave them out for longer than a few hours every day, they may become less effective.

Invisalign does not affect your speech long term, but you might experience a slight lisp as you get used to wearing aligners. However, this should clear up soon.

Invisalign aligners are removable, so there are no restrictions on eating and drinking. However, you should take your aligners out to eat, and to drink anything other than water as they could get stained or damaged - just put them back in afterwards. We also advise against smoking, as this can stain your aligners and teeth, and damage your oral health.
